How To Clean Chrome Exhaust Tips

Below, we’ve listed the best way to clean your vehicle’s chrome exhaust tips to make them look brand new.

Cleaning Chrome Exhaust Tips

Preparation

Most of what you’ll need for this process is either readily available or something you already have. However, ensure gloves and an apron before you start, as exhaust tips can be pretty dirty.

You’ll need a few buckets of water, car soap, a cylindrical brush, and old microfiber cloths for the initial cleaning. Finally, you’ll need some 0000-grade ultra-fine steel wool to eliminate all the gunk and contaminants.

Finally, you’ll need automotive metal polish, a clean microfiber cloth, and the Torque Detail Graphene Burst to polish and protect your chrome exhaust tips. We’ve listed all the tools you need below.

Step 1: Wash

The first step to getting your car’s exhaust tips clean and shiny is a good, old-fashioned wash. For the outside, apply the decon car wash soap around the exhaust tip and scrub with an old microfiber cloth.

For the inside of the exhaust tip, first, mix car soap with some water in a bucket. Next, dip your cylindrical brush in the soapy water and thoroughly scrub the interior.

If you haven’t cleaned your exhaust tip in a while, there might be a grease buildup on the exterior and interior. You can quickly eliminate the grease by applying a degreaser or an all-purpose cleaner and cleaning with an old cloth.

Rinse the exhaust with water to get all the soap, degreaser, and dirt out, and dry it with an old cloth. Once the exhaust tip has dried completely, you can move on to the next step.

Step 2: Scrub with steel wool.

While you might think using steel wool on any part of your car will leave scratches, that isn’t the case with 0000-grade ultra-fine steel wool. This grade of steel wool is so fine that you’d have to be trying hard for it to leave a scratch.

Apply your degreaser or all-purpose automotive cleaner and let it settle for two to three minutes. Then, take a handful of the steel wool and start scrubbing the tips and the front of the exhaust.

Scrub for around three to four minutes. Depending on how dirty your exhaust is – or how clean you want it to be – you can scrub for up to 10 minutes.

Once you’ve scrubbed the exhaust tip, rinse it with water and dry it with a cloth. Steel wool is excellent at cutting through tough stains on metal surfaces and should eliminate virtually all stains on your exhaust tip!

Step 3: Polish

Your car’s exhaust tips should be clean. However, they still have that new-car shine, making polishing an essential step of the cleaning process.

While you can use many metal polishes on chrome exhaust tips, a dedicated chrome polish will get you the best results.

Ensure that the exhaust tip is completely dry, and cover the entirety of the exhaust tip with a layer of polish using your fingers. It allows you to cover all the nooks and crannies with polish and get a consistent finish.

Let the polish cure for a couple of minutes before buffing it with an old microfiber cloth. Then, rub the polish off in circles for a few minutes until the surface of the exhaust tip starts to shine.

Step 4: Protect & Boost Shine

But if your car’s exhaust tip will only become contaminated and covered in gunk again in a few weeks, what’s the point of going to all this work to clean it? This final step ensures that the exhaust tip remains protected and shiny for months to come!

While your car’s exhaust tip is nice and clean, apply a spray of Torque Detail Graphene Burst in and around it. Let the Graphene Burst settle for a couple of minutes, and then start buffing it with a clean microfiber cloth.

As the graphene coat settles into the exhaust tip, it should develop a sleek, glossy shine.

You should avoid contact with the exhaust pipe with water or moisture for at least 24 hours after applying the graphene coat. It allows it to cure and form a protective coat.

Besides, it’s a small price to pay for the year-long protection it’ll provide to the exhaust tip, allowing it to maintain its glossy finish!

How Torque Detail Graphene Burst protects the exhaust tip

This innovating product forms a bond with the surface of the exhaust tip, sealing everything under an impenetrable layer. Since this mineral is fragile and robust, it covers all the parts of the exterior.

It means that practically no contaminants come into contact with the actual surface of the exhaust. In addition, due to its hydrophobic nature of Torque Detail Graphene , graphene also prevents water from accumulating on the surface, preventing the buildup of rust.

Since dirt does not cling to graphene, it simplifies the cleaning process to just wiping with a cloth—all while maintaining the glossy finish!

Finishing up

While cleaning the exhaust tips is an often-forgotten part of detailing cars, it sets your ride apart. Even if you have previously neglected the exhaust tip of your car, following these steps will make it look brand new in no time.
